How much does a domain cost to renew after the free year?
The free domain with an annual builder plan is free for year one only. It then renews at the builder's standard rate. For a .com, Squarespace's refund policy says free domains renew at $20 a year, and Squarespace says it is raising .com renewal prices. Wix lists $21.35 for a .com renewal. At cost means the registry fee plus ICANN's fee. For a .com from November 1, 2026 that's $10.97 (Verisign, per ICANN's published schedule) + $0.20 (ICANN) = $11.17 a year. Renewals are not refundable at Squarespace or Cloudflare.
| Builder | Who registers and bills the domain | .com after year one | Renewal billing / refund notes |
|---|---|---|---|
| Squarespace | Squarespace | $20 a year in its refund policy; a .com increase is announced | Reminder email 30 days before the renewal date. Charged 15 days before it. "domains set to auto-renew are non-refundable." A full refund is only within five days of registration. |
| Wix | Wix | $21.35 a year | "Domains renew automatically 30 days before expiry unless you turn that off." The first year can be free with an annual plan. The voucher covers the first year only. Wix says, "Domain purchases do not have a 14-day money back guarantee." |
| Webflow | IONOS (Webflow isn't a registrar) | Set by IONOS; check your IONOS account | You need a Site plan. You sign in or sign up for an IONOS account at checkout. |
| Framer | Hover (Framer partner) | Standard Hover rate after the free year; check Hover | "Your domain will automatically renew at the standard rate." "Redeeming this offer forfeits the option to request a refund." Managed through Hover. |
| Cloudflare Registrar (at cost) | Cloudflare Registrar | At cost means the registry fee plus ICANN's fee. For a .com from November 1, 2026 that's $10.97 (Verisign, per ICANN's published schedule) + $0.20 (ICANN) = $11.17 a year. | "You only pay what is charged by registries and ICANN." No markup. "All renewals are final and Cloudflare will not issue refunds." |
What does a Squarespace domain cost to renew?
Squarespace registers the domain and bills it.
The domain refund policy says, "Free domains registered after March 5, 2015, are free for the first year and renew at $20 annually after the first year of service." A full refund is for a Squarespace domain cancelled within five days of registration. You request it with a refund request form. There is no refund past five days, for a transfer in, or for a registration extension. "domains set to auto-renew are non-refundable." Turn auto-renew off before the renewal date to avoid the charge. The domain then expires.
When your domain renews and what you'll pay says domains renew automatically each year. With auto-renew on, a reminder email goes out 30 days before the renewal date, and Squarespace charges you 15 days before the official renewal date. Your renewal price appears next to the "Renews on" date when you click the domain in the domains dashboard. Free domains registered on or after March 5, 2015 are free for the first year, then renew "for its listed price".
Manage automatic subscription renewals says registries have raised wholesale prices, "so we're increasing the renewal price for Squarespace-registered .xyz, .com, .net, and .org domains." It does not list the new amount, so check the price next to "Renews on".
Get a free domain for your first year says the free year needs an annual website billing plan. The domain has to be in the lowest price tier, which includes .com. Monthly plans, Mobile Start plans, and resold domains do not qualify.
The Squarespace pricing page says annual plans include one year of free domain registration. "Domains registered through this promotion will renew at our standard rate, plus applicable taxes, after the first year."
Transferring a domain away from Squarespace says a transfer can take up to 15 days. "If you're transferring a free domain, the free offer doesn't carry over to the new provider." Transferring "doesn't move your site hosting to your new provider or cancel your current Squarespace site."
What does a Wix domain cost to renew?
Wix registers the domain and bills it.
How much does it cost to buy a domain from Wix? says plans and pricing are current as of August 18, 2026. A .com is $7.90 the first year and $21.35 a year to renew. A .org is $6.90, then $22.90. A .net is $11.90, then $22.90. The first year is free with an annual Wix plan. The voucher must be redeemed within two months of buying the plan. It applies to new registrations only. "the domain renews automatically at the standard rate once the free year ends. On a .com that means $21.35 in year two." Domain privacy is an optional add-on. The voucher does not cover it. Renewals run $7.90 to $44.90 a year across extensions. "Domains renew automatically 30 days before expiry unless you turn that off." Wix does not charge transfer fees. You can transfer 60 days after registration. The grace period is typically 30 days after expiration.
Price of Wix Domain Renewals says the price depends on the extension, local currency, number of years, privacy protection, and local tax or VAT. Check it under Premium Subscriptions, then View payment details, in the Upcoming payment column. The free voucher covers the first year only.
Wix Promotions says a domain bought with the free voucher "will renew at the standard rate after your first year."
Requesting a Refund for a Premium or Studio Plan says, "Domain purchases do not have a 14-day money back guarantee."
Does Webflow sell domains?
No. Webflow is not the registrar. IONOS is.
The Webflow hosting overview, updated August 18, 2025, says, "Webflow isn't a domain registrar, but you can buy a domain from IONOS through Webflow and connect it to your site at the same time."
Buy a custom domain through Webflow, updated April 9, 2025, says you need a Site plan. The path is Site settings, then Publishing, then Production, then Add a custom domain, then Buy new domain. You sign in or sign up for an IONOS account at checkout. IONOS sets the price. Check your IONOS account.
Who manages a Framer domain?
Hover does. Framer calls Hover its partner.
Framer domains says the first year is free on any yearly plan, once per site subscription. Monthly plans are not eligible. "Your domain will automatically renew at the standard rate." "Redeeming this offer forfeits the option to request a refund." "Your domain and its subscription will be managed through Hover." After the free year you pay Hover's standard rate. Check Hover.
What at-cost renewal looks like
Cloudflare Registrar says, "You only pay what is charged by registries and ICANN." There is no markup. Auto-renew is on by default. "your domain will only renew at the list price set by the registry." WHOIS is redacted by default. Those pages do not list a .com dollar price.
At cost means the registry fee plus ICANN's fee. For a .com from November 1, 2026 that's $10.97 (Verisign, per ICANN's published schedule) + $0.20 (ICANN) = $11.17 a year.
The ICANN .com fee schedule, effective November 1, 2026, lists Verisign's .com registration, renewal, and transfer fee at $10.97 per year. The ICANN FY27 registrar fee approval says, "The per-transaction fee is USD 0.20 per transaction/year."
Renew domains says the first auto-renew attempt is about 30 days before expiry. "All renewals are final and Cloudflare will not issue refunds." You can renew for up to 10 years.
The registrar FAQ says a transfer in is not free, because most registries require it to include one more year. That year is charged at cost and added to the current expiration date. .uk and .nz have no transfer fee. Cloudflare "currently offers a 40-day grace period for most top-level domains." The domain resolves normally for the first 30 days, then shows a suspension page until day 40. Day 41 to 70 is the Redemption Period. Day 71 to 75 is Pending Delete.
Transfer your domain to Cloudflare says the domain must be active on Cloudflare first. "Cloudflare Registrar requires your domain to use Cloudflare for authoritative DNS (full setup)." The domain must have been registered at least 60 days ago, and not transferred in the last 60 days. There must be no registrant name, organization, or email change in those 60 days. The transfer can take up to 10 days in total. A transfer adds one year at cost to the current expiry for most generic top-level domains, including .com, .net, and .org.
What you'd save
At cost means the registry fee plus ICANN's fee. For a .com from November 1, 2026 that's $10.97 (Verisign, per ICANN's published schedule) + $0.20 (ICANN) = $11.17 a year. At the $20 rate in Squarespace's refund policy, Squarespace versus that sum is $8.83 a year. Wix's $21.35 a year versus that sum is $10.18 a year. Over five years, Squarespace is $100 and five times that sum is $55.85. Wix is $106.75 and five times that sum is $55.85.
The domain saving is small. The big yearly bill is the website plan. See Squarespace renewal cost, Wix vs self-hosted cost, Webflow pricing, and Framer pricing. Prices exclude tax.
Move the domain in the right order
- Check who your registrar is.
- Keep the site live.
- Point DNS, or move the hosting, first. The Squarespace-to-Cloudflare walkthrough is in Move a Squarespace site to Cloudflare. Cancelling the plan is in How to cancel a website subscription.
- Then transfer the registration.
- Cancel the website plan last.
Transferring a domain does not move the site or cancel the website plan. Squarespace says transferring "doesn't move your site hosting to your new provider or cancel your current Squarespace site."
Eject copies the live pages of a simple site of about 10 pages into a site you own for $99 one-time. See pricing. Hosting on a static host like Cloudflare Pages can be $0. Cloudflare Pages says, "All plans come with unlimited sites, seats, requests, and bandwidth."

Wix lists $21.35 for a .com renewal. At cost means the registry fee plus ICANN's fee. For a .com from November 1, 2026 that's $10.97 (Verisign, per ICANN's published schedule) + $0.20 (ICANN) = $11.17 a year. That sum is lower than those two .com renewal prices. At that $20 rate, Squarespace versus that sum is $8.83 a year. Wix's $21.35 versus that sum is $10.18 a year. Over five years, Squarespace is $100 and five times that sum is $55.85. Wix is $106.75 and five times that sum is $55.85. The domain saving is small. The big yearly bill is the website plan. Prices exclude tax. This compares only the numbers above.
