Can you export your website from a website builder?
It depends on the builder. Only Webflow exports the site as HTML, and only on a paid Workspace plan. Site plans do not include code export. Squarespace exports certain content as an .xml file in a WordPress format, not as HTML. Wix and Framer do not export the site. Wix says the site "needs to be hosted and operated on Wix's servers." Framer says sites "cannot be exported as standalone HTML files for self-hosting."
You can still take lists, and some images. This page is for a simple site of about 10 pages. Stores, bookings, and members are a reason to stay.
| Builder | HTML/code export | Content you can export | Media | What doesn't come with you |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Squarespace | No. The site file is an .xml file in a WordPress format. | Layout pages, one blog page (posts and up to 1,000 comments per post), text blocks, image blocks, and gallery pages on version 7.0. Products and contacts as .csv. | Images, one at a time, from the Asset library. No bulk export of images or uploaded videos. | Album, cover, index, info, calendar, portfolio, and store pages. Page headers, footers, and sidebars. A second blog. Dropdowns. Audio, product, and video blocks. Drafts, style settings, and custom CSS. |
| Wix | No. The site needs to be hosted and operated on Wix's servers. | One CMS collection at a time, as CSV: the whole collection, filtered items, or the field names only. Contacts as CSV, up to 50,000 at a time. | Files you uploaded, one file or several. Hold Command or Control to select more than one. | The pages as HTML. Blog posts. Free Wix media and Shutterstock media. A download of every media file at once. |
| Webflow | Yes, on a paid Workspace plan only. Site plans do not include it. The ZIP has HTML for every page, CSS, JavaScript, and images from the Assets panel. | CMS Collections, Ecommerce Collections, and User Accounts, as CSV. | Images uploaded in the Assets panel, inside the ZIP. | CMS content on the pages (Collection lists show the empty state). The ZIP skips Ecommerce, User Accounts, password protection, form processing, reCAPTCHA, site search, code components, and any locale except the primary one. |
| Framer | No. Sites cannot be exported as standalone HTML files for self-hosting. | Any CMS collection as CSV, with Framer's free CMS Export plugin. | Not described on the HTML-export page. | The published site as HTML or a static bundle. |
Can you export a Squarespace site?
Part of the content. Not the site as HTML. Export your site content, updated October 9, 2026, says: "You can export certain content from your Squarespace site into an .xml file. Many features rely on our platform's JavaScript and CSS, so some content doesn't export." The same article says the exported file can only be in a WordPress format. Click the WordPress icon even if you are not moving to WordPress.
What that file includes:
- Layout pages
- One blog page, including its posts and up to 1,000 comments per post
- Text blocks and image blocks
- Text from other blocks, such as the embed block and the Instagram block, with minimum structure
- Gallery pages, including York project pages, on version 7.0 only
What it does not include: album, cover, index, info, calendar, portfolio, and store pages. Content in page-specific headers, footers, and sidebars. More than one blog page. Dropdowns. Audio blocks, product blocks, and video blocks. Drafts, style settings, and custom CSS.
Import to and export from your site, updated October 28, 2026, lists three exports: site content to an .xml file, products to a .csv file, and contacts to a .csv file (individual mailing lists, or in bulk). You can't export content from one Squarespace site and import it into another.
Do this while the site is still public:
- Publish the site and set site availability to Public. You can't export from a trial site.
- Open the Import & export content panel.
- Click Export.
- Click the WordPress icon.
- If the site has more than one blog page, select a primary blog, then click Export. Only that blog page exports.
- Wait for the export. Click Download to save the .xml file. Clear erases the export.
Images and uploaded videos cannot be exported in bulk. Download individual images, one at a time, from the Asset library.
If you later import that .xml into a self-hosted WordPress site with the WordPress Importer, Squarespace says your images might not migrate. WordPress can pull reference links for the images instead, so the image links stop working after you cancel your Squarespace site.
The leave order, including the domain, is in How to leave Squarespace.
Can you export a Wix site?
No HTML export. Exporting or embedding your Wix site elsewhere says the site "needs to be hosted and operated on Wix's servers." The same article says you can connect a domain to the site, and purchase and manage that domain with another provider. The pages stay on Wix.
What you can take is lists, and media you uploaded.
CMS. Exporting content from your collection exports one collection at a time to CSV:
- Go to CMS in the site dashboard and open the collection.
- Click More Actions, then Export to CSV.
- Choose the entire collection, the filtered items, or the collection fields only. The fields option exports the field names, not the items.
- Click Export, then Download File when it is ready.
Time fields in that CSV are displayed as UTC+0.
Contacts. Exporting your contacts says you can export up to 50,000 site contacts at a time. Only the site owner can export contacts.
- Go to Contacts.
- Click the Import / Export menu, then Export.
- Choose the contacts: selected contacts, a label, or all contacts.
- Pick Regular CSV, Google CSV, or Outlook CSV, then click Export.
Media. Downloading files from the Media Manager says only images and videos you uploaded can be downloaded. Free Wix media and Shutterstock media cannot be downloaded. One file: hover it, open More Actions, and click Download. Several files: hold Command or Control, click the files, and click Download. Wix says, "Currently, you cannot bulk download all your media files at once." You also cannot download the contents of Board folders in bulk.
Blog. Request: Exporting blog posts to other platforms says, "Currently, it is not possible to export blog posts to other platforms." That page is a feature request.
The leave order is in How to leave Wix.
Can Webflow export code?
Yes, if the Workspace plan is paid. No, if you only have a Site plan. How do I export my Webflow site code?, updated October 31, 2025, says: "Code export is only available on Workspace plans — that is, Site plans do not include the ability to export your site's code." There is no free code export. A Site plan does not include it.
On a paid Workspace plan, the steps are:
- Open the site.
- Open the main menu and click Code export. The shortcut is Shift+E.
- Click Prepare ZIP.
- Download the ZIP.
The ZIP has an HTML file for every page, including empty Collection template pages. It has a CSS folder (the site CSS, webflow.css, and normalize.css), a JavaScript folder, and an images folder of images uploaded in the Assets panel. Webflow says you don't need to provide attribution, or keep a Webflow plan, for that exported site to work on your own server. You can't choose part of the site. Webflow says, "At the moment, you can't choose what gets exported."
The ZIP does not include CMS content. "On exported sites, Collection lists will show the empty state." It also leaves out User Accounts, Ecommerce (products and checkout), site and page password protection, form submission processing, reCAPTCHA, site search, localized content beyond the primary locale, and code components. Existing form submissions are not in the ZIP. Webflow says they can be exported separately.
CMS Collections (including localized Collection content), Ecommerce Collections, and User Accounts can be exported as CSV. That CSV is the collection. It is not the designed page.
The leave order is in How to leave Webflow.
Can you export a Framer site?
No. Can I export my website to HTML and self-host it?, updated September 15, 2026, says "Framer does not offer HTML export for self-hosting." The same article says published sites "cannot be exported as standalone HTML files for self-hosting." Framer's FAQ on that page says it does not provide a way to export published sites as HTML files or static website bundles.
You can connect a custom domain and publish through Framer. That keeps the site on Framer.
The site file is not available. A collection is. Framer's own free CMS Export plugin exports any CMS collection as CSV.
The leave order is in How to leave Framer.
What to do when the export isn't enough
The file you can download is not a working copy of the site. Squarespace's file is WordPress XML. Wix and Framer do not export HTML. Webflow's ZIP skips the CMS content, Ecommerce, forms, and the rest of the list above.
For a simple site of about 10 pages, do this while the old site is still public:
- Copy the live site as static HTML. Save the words from the pages, and the images you were able to download.
- Host the files free on Cloudflare Pages. Cloudflare says, "All plans come with unlimited sites, seats, requests, and bandwidth." Putting a Squarespace site on that host is in Squarespace to Cloudflare. What can be free after you leave a builder is in A website without a monthly fee.
- Point the domain at the new host. Leave the builder paid until the new site answers on that domain.
- Cancel last.
Stores, bookings, and members are a reason to stay. A static copy does not run a store, a booking calendar, or member logins.
Eject copies the live pages into a site you own for $99 one-time. See pricing.
FAQ
Can I export my Wix site to HTML? No. Wix says your site "needs to be hosted and operated on Wix's servers." There is no HTML export. You can connect a domain and manage it with another provider. A CMS collection exports to CSV, one collection at a time: the entire collection, the filtered items, or the field names only. Contacts export to CSV (Regular, Google, or Outlook), up to 50,000 at a time. Blog posts do not export. Wix says, "Currently, it is not possible to export blog posts to other platforms."
Can I export my Squarespace site? Part of it. The site export is an .xml file, and Squarespace says that file can only be in a WordPress format. It includes layout pages, one blog page with its posts and up to 1,000 comments per post, text blocks, image blocks, and gallery pages on version 7.0. It does not include album, cover, index, info, calendar, portfolio, or store pages, or page headers, footers, and sidebars. It also skips a second blog, dropdowns, audio blocks, product blocks, video blocks, drafts, style settings, and custom CSS. The site must be published and Public. You can't export from a trial site. You can't import the file into another Squarespace site. Products and contacts export as .csv.
Can Webflow export code with the CMS? The HTML export does not include CMS content. Webflow says, "On exported sites, Collection lists will show the empty state." Code export is only on paid Workspace plans. Site plans do not include code export. CMS Collections, Ecommerce Collections, and User Accounts can be exported as CSV. The code export includes the primary locale only. Localized Collection content can be in the CSV.
Can I export a Framer site? No. Framer says, "Framer does not offer HTML export for self-hosting." The same article, updated September 15, 2026, says sites "cannot be exported as standalone HTML files for self-hosting." There is no download of HTML files or a static bundle. You can connect a custom domain and publish through Framer. Framer's own free CMS Export plugin exports any CMS collection as CSV. That file is the collection, not the site.
Can I download all my images? Not every image, and not as one library download. Squarespace says it is not possible to export images or uploaded videos in bulk. You can download individual images, one at a time, from the Asset library. Wix says, "Currently, you cannot bulk download all your media files at once." You can download one file, or several files you uploaded, by holding Command or Control. Free Wix media and Shutterstock media cannot be downloaded. Webflow's export ZIP includes the images from the Assets panel. Framer's HTML-export article does not describe an image download.
What's the easiest way to keep my site if I can't export it? Copy the live pages as static HTML while the site is still public. Host the files on Cloudflare Pages. Cloudflare says, "All plans come with unlimited sites, seats, requests, and bandwidth." Point the domain at that host, then cancel the builder. This fits a simple site of about 10 pages. Stores, bookings, and members are a reason to stay.
