What are the alternatives to Framer?
It depends on the site and on whether you want another subscription. Framer Basic is $120 a year on yearly billing, Pro is $360, and Framer has no HTML export, so every alternative means rebuilding. For a small portfolio or brochure site, Carrd is the cheap builder, WordPress is the free software, and a static site you host yourself is the one that ends the renewal. Webflow, Squarespace, and Wix cost more than Framer Basic per year and still keep most of the site on their platform.
This page is the cost and ownership comparison. The order of operations for leaving is in How to leave Framer. The move itself is at Move a Framer site. Plan limits and year totals are in Framer pricing.
What a small site costs
"Small site" here means a portfolio, landing page, or a few business pages. Not a store, a membership area, or a large CMS. Domain registration is a separate bill on every row, except where a plan includes the first year.
| Option | Small-site cost | Export or own the code? | Who it fits |
|---|---|---|---|
| Framer Basic | $120/yr | No | You still design in Framer |
| Webflow Basic | $180/yr | Paid Workspace plan only | A visual builder, plus a code zip |
| Squarespace Basic | $228/yr in the US | Partial WordPress file | One editor, and you can live without the code |
| Wix Light | $204/yr on Wix's USD article | No | You want Wix's editor |
| WordPress, self-hosted | Software $0 | Yes, on your host | You will run hosting |
| Carrd Pro Standard | $19/yr | Not on this plan | A one-page site on your domain |
| Webstudio | $180/yr on cloud, or export | Yes | An open-source visual builder |
| Files you own | Eject $99 once, then $0 hosting | Yes | Stop the Framer renewal |
Yearly totals for Framer, Webflow, and Webstudio's cloud plan are 12 times the monthly price those pages show for yearly billing. Squarespace's $228 is the annual total printed in its USD pricing file. Wix's $204 is 12 times the $17 a month in Wix's own USD pricing article. Carrd's $19 is the yearly price on its plan page. Wix's plans page says prices and currency vary by location, so the purchase page is the number that matters for Wix.
Framer, if you stay
On framer.com/pricing, with yearly billing selected, Basic is $10 a month and Pro is $30 a month. That is $120 and $360 for the year. The page says prices are monthly and billed on the cycle you choose at checkout. It did not show a separate month-to-month dollar amount, so that rate is not listed here.
An extra editor is $20 a month, and a content editor is $10. A solo site is the plan price. A team site is not.
The free plan is $0. Framer's pricing FAQ says a custom domain requires a paid plan. Yearly Basic and Pro list a free custom domain.
There is no export. Framer's help center says Framer does not offer HTML export for self-hosting, and that you cannot download the published site as HTML files. Leaving means rebuilding. Steps: How to leave Framer.
Webflow
On webflow.com/pricing, Basic is $15 a month billed yearly, which is $180 for the year. Webflow says prices are in USD, per site, plus tax. Basic is the plan "for simple sites that don't need a CMS," and it includes a free Starter Workspace.
Webflow's May 2026 pricing update says Basic is $15 a month on yearly billing or $25 a month on monthly billing. Twelve months at $25 is $300. The same update says the old CMS and Business site plans were combined into Premium at $25 a month billed yearly. Premium is the CMS plan, which is more than a simple brochure site needs.
Code export is real, and it is not included with a Site plan. Webflow's help center says export of HTML, CSS, JavaScript, and assets is on paid Workspace plans, and that Site plans do not include it. CMS content, ecommerce, user accounts, localization, password protection, site search, and form processing are not in the export. After export, Webflow says you do not have to keep a Webflow plan for the files to work on your own server.
Webflow fits if you want another visual builder and you are willing to pay for a Workspace plan to get a zip of the pages. A Framer project still has to be rebuilt there.
Squarespace
Squarespace's pricing.txt, checked October 23, 2026, lists US Basic at $19 a month on annual billing and $228 for the year. US monthly billing is $25 a month. The file describes Basic as the plan for personal sites, portfolios, and simple business pages, and says annual Basic includes a custom domain free for one year.
US Core is $348 for the year. The same file lists Basic and Core in many currencies, so a non-US invoice will not match the US row. What changed in 2026, and when a renewal uses the new price, is on Squarespace renewal cost.
Squarespace's help center says you can export certain content to a WordPress .xml file, and that "many features rely on our platform's JavaScript and CSS, so some content doesn't export." Style settings and custom CSS are on the list of things that don't export. Squarespace also says you can't export from one Squarespace site into another. The design stays on Squarespace.
Squarespace fits if you like that editor and you do not need the code. It costs more per year than Framer Basic for a simple US site.
Wix
Wix's plans page says: "Prices and currency vary by location. USD prices displayed for reference only." The final price is on the purchase page. A plans page opened from outside the US can show a different amount than the USD reference, so this comparison does not treat a localized render as the USD price.
Wix's own article, How much is a Wix website?, lists yearly plans paid in full: Light $17 a month, Core $29, Business $39, Business Elite $159. Light for a year is 12 × $17, which is $204. The article says Light is the plan that adds a custom domain, and that the free domain voucher is for a new domain bought from Wix, not a renewal. More of the Wix bill is on Wix vs self-hosted.
You cannot move the site off Wix. Wix's help center says the site "needs to be hosted and operated on Wix's servers" and that "the SaaS architecture does not support external hosting." The content is yours. The pages are not a portable site.
Wix fits if you want that editor and you accept the lock-in. On the USD yearly figures, Light costs more than Framer Basic.
WordPress, self-hosted
The WordPress software is free. wordpress.org/download offers the download for anyone getting their own hosting and domain, and lists Free and Open among the things that come with it. The license page says the software is released under GPLv2 or later. The download page recommends PHP 8.3 or greater and MySQL 8.0 or MariaDB 10.11 or greater. It does not publish one hosting price, so this page does not invent one.
Self-hosted means the files sit on a host you choose. You can edit them, move them, and back them up. That is the ownership difference with Framer. You also take on updates, PHP, and the database. For a page that almost never changes, that is more machine than you need. For a blog or a site you want to edit in a CMS, it is the usual open-source answer.
WordPress.com, the hosted service, is a different product with its own plans. This table covers self-hosted WordPress.
Carrd
Carrd is the cheap end of the list, and it is built for one-page sites. The homepage says you can build up to three sites for free, and it lists custom domains under Go Pro.
From Carrd's Pro plans:
- Pro Lite is $9 a year. The page says it is for people who don't use custom domains. Custom domains are not in its feature list.
- Pro Standard is $19 a year. It includes custom domains, forms, and embeds, for up to 10 sites.
- Pro Plus is $30 a year more than Pro Standard. It adds a download of the unminified HTML, CSS, JavaScript, and images. The page says that download excludes server-side code.
Carrd fits a one-page site on your own domain at $19 a year. It does not fit a multi-page Framer site, and you do not get the files unless you pay for Pro Plus.
Open source: Webstudio
Webstudio's FAQ says Webstudio Builder is open source under the AGPL, and that use without modifications is free. The platform around it is open core. The license file is the GNU Affero General Public License.
Self-hosting docs say you can export a project as a static site (HTML, CSS, JavaScript, and images) or as a JavaScript app, and host that yourself. They also say self-hosting the builder in production is not recommended. A static export does not include dynamic pages, redirects, or a managed form endpoint.
On webstudio.is/pricing, the free cloud plan uses a wstd.io subdomain. The next plan is $15 a month billed yearly, which is $180 for the year, and it includes unlimited sites on custom domains. The same page says the Pro tier includes 100,000 monthly page views, and extra views are $20 per 100,000.
Webstudio is the open-source builder on this list. It still does not import a Framer file. You rebuild, then you can export.
A static or Next.js site you own
This is the path that ends the builder bill. Next.js is released under the MIT license, which grants use free of charge. Cloudflare Pages says all plans come with unlimited sites, seats, requests, and bandwidth, and that you can start building for free. For a portfolio or brochure site, hosting is $0 a year. The domain is the remaining bill.
Someone still has to rebuild the pages, because Framer will not hand over HTML. You can do that yourself with an AI chatbot, or have it done once. Eject's automated move is a $99 one-time fee for a simple site of about 10 pages. You own the code. After that you edit by asking ChatGPT or any free AI chatbot. Custom work has no public price.
Run your Framer plan in the renewal savings calculator, or start at Move a Framer site.
Framer vs Webflow
For a simple site on yearly billing, Framer Basic is $120 a year and Webflow Basic is $180. Framer Pro, at $360, costs more than Webflow Basic and more than Webflow Premium's $25 a month billed yearly ($300 for the year).
The ownership difference is the export. Framer has none. Webflow will give you HTML, CSS, JavaScript, and assets, only on a paid Workspace plan, and without CMS content. Neither one imports the other's project.
Stay on Framer if you design there every week. Move toward Webflow only if you want that editor. If the goal is to stop paying a builder, neither subscription does that.
Framer vs Squarespace
US Squarespace Basic is $228 a year. Framer Basic is $120. Squarespace costs more for a simple site, and its export is a WordPress file of some of the content, not the design.
Squarespace fits a person who wants one hosted editor and does not care about the code. It is a poor fit if the reason you are looking at alternatives is that you want the files.
Framer vs Wix
On Wix's USD yearly figures, Light is $204 a year, against $120 for Framer Basic. Your Wix price can differ: the plans page says prices and currency vary by location.
Wix requires its own servers. Framer does not offer an HTML export. Switching from one to the other is a rebuild either way. It is worth it if you prefer Wix's editor. On the USD yearly figures, Light costs more than Framer Basic, and the code stays on Wix.
When you should stay on Framer
- You design in Framer most weeks. The editor is what you are paying for.
- The site depends on scroll animations, a large CMS, localization, or A/B tests you do not want to rebuild.
- An extra editor at $20 a month is still cheaper, for your team, than the time to rebuild.
Framer is good at those jobs. This comparison is for a site that has not changed in months and is still renewing.
If Framer feels too expensive
Price the plan you actually have. Basic at $120 a year is less than Webflow Basic, Squarespace Basic, and Wix Light on the figures above. Pro at $360, or Pro plus editors, is where the bill gets large. Carrd at $19 a year is the cheaper builder if the site is one page. A static host at $0, after a one-time rebuild, is the cheaper option if the site is a few pages and you want the files.
Have the new site live before the renewal, then cancel. The sequence is in How to leave Framer.
